I'd like to check this out! Sounds really interesting, and you could use it in the classroom to show how characters can portray themes and symbolism. Thanks!

"Totoro" is an anime film or Japanese animation film by the very brilliant, creative Miyazaki. Although this film is aimed at a younger audience than perhaps "Spirited Away", I find it to be heartwarming and visually stimulating.

"Totoro" is the story of young family who has moved into a house in the country. The house is close to the forest (full of magic) and all sorts of wonderful creatures. Satsuki and Mei's adventures begins with the girls discovery of "dust spirits" and only becomes much more creative as they meet the "Totoro" and "Cat Bus". These magical creatures help the girls to visit their sick mother in the hospital and the forest provides a place of solace for the young girls.

It is a fairy tale and the brilliance of Miyasaki is building messages of strength, support, honor, loyalty into creative characters like "Cat Bus". I recommend all of Miyazaki's films, but "Totoro" holds a special place in my heart.

(edited to make the film title the subject line -cd)

I love these animated films. One of my favorites is Kiki's Delivery Service.
