This was a really insightful interview from CSPAN with Iris Chang, author of the book titled “The Rape of Nanking.” I think this would be a really good interview for students to watch because she is able to further elaborate about the holocaust that took place in Nanking/Manchuria that was committed by the Japanese. I will have students read excerpts from her book and then I would offer them extra credit for watching the interview and writing about five things that caught their attention from the interview. Although much of the subject matter is very graphic and it may upset many students, I believe that it is an event in world history that must never be forgotten. If the state of California deems that the images and videos of the Jewish Holocaust are okay to share in our classes, I don’t see why we can’t cover this material in our classes either.
