I have a book that I bought on Mummies from Egypt. Having been expose to this class and having lots of literature given to me on the topic of east Asia. I now am buying literature about China and Japan. I found this book called "China" that had an interesting article about Jade being use in designing Mummies.
The ancient Egyptians often covered their mummies with gold, but only after they removed the internal organs and wrapped the bodies with cloth. The Chinese thought that simply covering a dead body with Jade , a type of stone, would be enough to preserve it.
During the Han dynasty (206B>C< - 220 A. D. ) important people were sometimes buried wearing Jade suits from head to toe. Jade was believed to have spiritual properties that preserved the body and make the wearer immortal.
