As an avid, yet novice reader of Asian biographies, I was wondering if anyone would recommend some biographies for East Asian personalities (I like to read mostly about politicial figures)?

I have recently read Mao by Jung Chang and her Wild Swans and have grown more and more fascinated with Chinese figures such as Chiang Kai-shek and Sun Yat-sen. I have a list of people here that I would be interested in getting more reading choices, which well help me broaden and deepen my understanding of East Asian personalities that I can relate to my students.

    The Empress Dowager Cixi
    Yuan Shikai
    Sun Yat-sen
    Mao Tse Tung
    Chiang Kai-shek
    Lin Biao
    Liu Shaoqi
    Chou Enlai
    Deng Xiaoping
    Jiang Zemin
    Jiang Qing
    Park Chung Hee
    Kim Il Sung
    Kim Il Jong
    Hirohito
    Hideki Tojo
    Yamamoto
    Ho Chi Minh
    Le Duc Tho

These are the ones that come to mind. I would love to read your responses and if you have any names to add, I would welcome those as well.

Regarding your request for any book that one might recommend. A professor of mine once recommended that I read Mao Tse Tung Biography written by Eric Chow.

Chow, Eric. Mao Tse-tung: The Man and the Myth. New York, Stein and Day, 1980. 289 p.
    Book call no.: 92 M296cb

My professor stated that it is an easy and good read. Hope the info helps.
