Unfortunately I had to miss Session 12. However, I was able to visit the Japanese Garden at the Huntington. At the garden I was very impressed with the beautiful gardens and houses. The Japanese houses were created in Japan and shipped to Pasadena. They were made out of wood and have panels that open up allowing inhabitants to enjoy the gardens. They also had a Bonsai collection and zen court that had beautiful miniature trees. These trees can be found in local markets today and also in Chinese art. In the garden there is also a small temple with a bell. The sculpture has an inscription that states when translated “Hail, great teacher, universal adamantine illuminator”. My father is a gardener and growing up I met a lot of garden experts that are Korean and Japanese. I was always excited when visiting the nursery’s and looking at the plants. Something unique that I liked about the garden is that they offer free lectures of Thursdays from garden experts. They also have plant sale annually which I will be definitely visiting back since I will be living in Pasadena this year.
