    Thank you for sharing, I think this is a great summer activity for my students to attend and them not really realize that they are being exposed to cultural events. My school is located within a few miles of chinatown and this would e something feasible for my students to go to. Because my school is so small this is also giving me an idea of offering summer homework for my incoming students that would deal with historical events and practices in their neighborhood. I think that students could also maybe do some sort of commercial or add using digital media and sharing within our school. One other event that is also exciting in Chinatown are the New Year's Celebrations. For instance they have a race weekend where people can either run/walk or bike. They have a dragon initiate this event and people crowd around to the see it and the watch the fireworks. This is great exposure to the lunar calendar and this could lead to discussions about it as well.

    You're right! I can email this information to my parent email list from this past year. Many of them will show up to any event as long as I tell them the day and times I will be there. It became a game with my students to take a picture with me during these out of school events.

    Kriztian, thank you for sharing about Chinatown Summer Nights! I went last year and remember the array of food selections and shows that were available to the public. It is a great way to get a taste of Asian culture right here in our backyard of Los Angeles. And @mvelarde, the 626 market is also amazing! Also went there last year and enjoyed it. They also have a wide selection of food options from different Asian cultures. I remember when I went last year I had just come back from China, so was excited to try out the new cuisines I had tried in China at the 626 market.

    @csanchez
    I think sending this information out to students and parents would be an awesome idea! Our students need to be exposed to events happening in their neighborhood. I think usually they are not exposed due to lack of information rather than lack of interest. Hopefully they can take the opportunity to attend one of the 2 future events!

    The 626 night market is a great place to challenge your palate and try new foods! Last time I went, I was exposed for the first time to fermented tofu and I discovered some new Chinese snacks. For those of you who have never attended, there is also an array of art, cultural performances, and general vendors. You can also find a number of fusion foods which are interesting (some great, and some... no so great).

    The 626 Market is July 1-3 and July 22-24. Sorry about that. But at least there is plenty of time to plan.

    I am sorry I did not hear about this event ahead of time. I recently visited Chinatown, though for only a quick trip with a friend to pick up a dress. I love walking around Chinatown also and thought this wasn't a first time for me, it was the first time as an adult. I used to go down there with my mother, sister, and grandmother to have dim sum and walk around visiting the shops and buying special trinkets. Chinatown was also where I discovered Hello Kitty as a child and it forever changed my childhood universe. I would love to visit the upcoming event in July and introduce my boyfriend to the experience of Chinatown by walking around, having lunch, and shopping. I love the inviting atmosphere, historical relevance to Los Angeles, and traditional food and dress. Thank you for informing us about the upcoming events!

    Hello,
    Thank you for sharing this event, I will definitely check out the July 18th event. I recently visited Chinatown and I loved walking around the shops and eating at the local restaurants. Although I have lived in Los Angeles my whole life I have never attended any cultural events in Chinatown. I look forward to learning more abou Chinese culture and being more exposed to any music or artwork they may have at this event!

    This past weekend, I attended Chinatown Summer Nights. I wish I would have heard about it earlier to research it a bit more before I attended the event, but I still really enjoyed it. I had never walked around in Chinatown, and one thing I appreciated was the historic signs detailing the importance of certain buildings. While at the summer nights event, there were food trucks, a DJ, vendors, a miniature parade with dragons, and firecracker confetti. This event was interesting and really fun. I enjoyed walking through the stores in Chinatown, seeing the small symbols of China in the stores. One thing I wondered while I was there was whether this event was correlated to an event that typically takes place in China. I was confused because there was not much mention or obvious connection to the event. Also, the confetti was very popular, people were buying multiple confetti shooters and popping them around the square. I am also curious as to the cultural or historic significance of the confetti. There were also cultural workshops, however, I did not see these while walking around the area. I think these would have provided more contexts for the event, but the educational component lacked overall. With that said, it was an experience that I would recommend others to attend, at least to get out into Chinatown and explore. They will have more events this summer (July 16th and August 20th).
