The East Asia Resource Center at the Henry Jackson School of International Studies / University of Washington is part of the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia. Summer seminars and workshops are available for educators, and both produce curriculum that is available under the Teaching Resources tab. Here, there are numerous links for national research about East Asia, but it is the partnership curriculum that is developing with the Seattle Times news organization is where teachers can find newspaper articles and teacher guides called "Exploring Asia." Sections are organized: Global Asia: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow; Asian Cities; Political Change in the 21st Century; Islam in Asia; Exploring Asia Human Rights; Asia and the Environment; Global Health; Performing Arts; Youth Culture; Continuity and Change in Asia.
The curriculum has five lessons per section and is easily adaptable for a larger unit that is thematic, large unit on Asia, but also can be introduced as a weekly reading of nonfiction in the English Language Arts classroom.
