Thanks for the link. I just recently learned how close Seul is to North Korea and in light of the history and recurring threats I would be scared to live there.

Lisa Ling did a great documentary on North Korea a few years ago. It focuses on the dictatorship of Kim Jong-il and his absolute rule. Since I am an English teacher, I used this documentary as a post activity after teaching Animal Farm. The students made the connections between the type of communist rule portrayed in the novel to that established in North Korea. The title of the documentary is "Inside Undercover in North Korea" and it is sponsered by national Geographic. It is on Netflix and parts of it can be found on Youtube.

Harden is a former Asia correspondent for the Washington Post. His book Escape from Camp 14 tells the story of Shin Dong-hyu. Shin was born in North Korea's gulag. His parents were executed for trying to escape from it. He later managed to do so. Shin managed to get to China, then to South Korea and the United States. Harden is currently on a book tour. He'll be in Los Angeles with the Asia Society and USC Center for International Business Education and Research on August 1.

You can see a promo video for the book on YouTube. Harden also spoke on the book for CSPAN.
