Those interested in multinational corporations doing business in China may be interested in a substantial (127 page) report produced by the Economist Intelligence Unit. It can be downloaded free of charge from:

    http://www.eiu.com/site_info.asp?info_name=eiu_multinational_companies_in_china

This report is more optimistic than many recent analyses.

Incidentally, my favorite books on early investors in 1980s China are:

Jim Mann, Beijing Jeep (LA Times China correspondent)

Randall Stross, Bulls in the China Shop (San Jose State professor)

Without question, one of the most upbeat observers of China's economy is William Overholt, now based in Santa Monica and working for the Rand Corporation. His 1990s book The Rise of China puts forward the call to invest heard throughout American boardrooms during that era.

As you read about foreign investment in China and as you see evidence of it on the streets, please take a moment to post your observations about its impact.
