It is really refreshing to see that an Asian person can be in a boy/rock band in America as well as Asia. Even though Johnny Hi-Fi grew up and was raised in the United States, he never let go of his roots, as mentioned with the Chinese song on track six. Since American and British music has always been at the top of world pop culture, it is awesome to hear that this band is being compared to Radiohead, Weezer, and Coldplay. Not only that, but he also has a different spunk that makes him different from all the other bands. At least in American pop culture, the dominating races were always white and black. White with their rock and pop, and black with their hip-hop, rap, and R&B. Asians are finally starting to come to light! I hope that Johnny Hi-Fi's tour around Asia and America goes well.

Even more, Japanese singers that are able to penetrate the solid black and white music industry have been on the rise. Japanese singer, Utada Hikaru, who attended or is still at Columbia University, has been on the music charts for a while. I think a big part of how asian's are able to come into the American music industry is through video games. Since Japan has the greatest and most game productions, many theme songs in video games such as Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, are sang by Asian musicians who also become famous in the States.

The article incited enough interest in me to go and check out the band's site. I highly recommend going to their music link where you can listen to ALL their music (full length!), even their new "Sad Stories" album.

It's worth a listen. And they do sound like Weezer and the like. But what makes Johnny Hi-Fi different from most mainstream alt-rock bands is the diversitiy of the band, which I greatly appreciate.
