Ching Cheong is a Chinese reporter who is being detained because the Chinese government does not want Zhao's documents to be released into the public. Zhao Ziyang was the official who wanted to stop the violence at Tianamen Square in 1989, and he was put under strict house arrest for the rest of his life as a result. Since he went against Chinese Communist Party ideals and wanted democracy for China, he was locked up. Zong, his qigong master was one of the few with access to him, so he has the manuscripts of their conversations. Since China is afraid of these democratic-based manuscripts to be released, then it must be pretty powerful. This relates to the Watergate scandal, and I remembered since Deep Throat was recently revealed. It's the same situation since Woodward wanted the articles to be released while the government tried to stop it from happening. I believe that eventually the manuscripts will get out and circulate around China, and some type of political upheaval will occur as a result. There should always be freedom of press and speech, and China obviously wants to suppress this democratic ideal by detaining the reporter and by trying to erase a "radical" such as Zhao Ziyang out of the past and present. With today's technology and connections, I think that another "Watergate" scandal will be on China's hands. Maybe the manuscripts will reveal something that no one ever knew about China's Communist history.
