I was looking for a song to teach my class for Chinese New Year. Found a great resource from a singer song writer named Nancy Stewart. She allows you to download her archieved "Songs of the Month" at no charge.

I was having trouble downloading the song, called her number and she called me back the next day!

    Her site is http://www.nancymusic.com

    She also sells CDs.

You not only can download the song on MP3 but can also print both the lyrics and the sheet music.

Our Kindergartern class will rehearse and perform "Gung Hay Fat Choy" for our Chinese PE teacher and in our centers on Chinese New Year while we make Dragon masks and Chinese Dragons from egg cartons and paper towel tubes.

The Peninsula Library has a great collection of Asian musical CDs. I have made a few copies and play them when we are studying China and Japan.

Music for K - 2 Chinese New Year Celebration
The music teacher at our school, Kathleen Peterson, taught my 1st graders a song about the Chinese New Year. It's called "The New Year Dragons Are Coming". It's in the 1st grade Silver Burdett Ginn music book. This song is also on a CD that you can use in your classroom.
The district music specialists are a good resource for adding music to your K-5 curriculum.

There will be a Chinese New Year Storytelling at Miraleste Library on Feb 4 at 2pm. It sounds like it is geared for younger kids.
