The Korean History and Culture Annual Seminar for American educators will be held from June 25 to June 29, 2018. The annual event is sponsored by the Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles and National Korean Studies, a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization.
Since 2004, the Korean Cultural Center has provided free five-day seminars on Korea. More than 2,000 educators from throughout the United States have participated in our programs. During the seminar week, educators will listen to lectures on Korean art, history, language, literature, martial arts, music, religion, and philosophy. Participants will create rhythmic sounds on Korean drums, visit a Buddhist temple, participate in a Korean cooking class, perform taekwondo techniques, and witness a beautiful Korean tea ceremony. As a result of the seminar, attendees will not only become more informed about current issues related to East Asia, but will also have greater understanding of their Korean American students and their families. All participants will receive extensive resources for K-16 teachers of all disciplines. Three units of professional development credit are available from the University of Southern California.
Our website (http:/www.nationalkoreanstudies.com) includes the schedule for the week, a 2017 seminar video, and the fellowship application/action plan. If accepted, National Korean Studies will pay all expenses including a six-night hotel stay in Koreatown L.A., breakfast and lunch during the five days of the program, and van service to and from the Korean Cultural Center. The fellowship does not include airfare. The deadline for the application is March 15th.Fellowships are only available for teachers more than 40 miles from Los Angeles.
