The website that I just found out about is called Kids Web Japan. This websites introduces children to Japan. The first feature that I want to mention is the language portion. In this section of the website you can take actual Japanese lessons. You are given language lessons on how to pronounce Japanese words (basic greetings), how to read in Japanese (Japanese alphabets), grammar, and scenarios. This is a great independent center for students if you do rotations with your students. They can help each other and work together and speak to each other using basic phrases in Japanese.
Another feature of this website is the explore Japan section. In this section you find out everything about Japan from basic facts, lifestyle, culture and tradition. This is further broken down and filled with information and photos.
- Nature and climate
- Regions of Japan
- Housing, food and clothes
- History
- Culture
- Sports
- The imperial family
- Nation Flag and Anthem
- Government
- Economy and industry.
This website is full of information but the last feature that I’ll mention is the games. I did play a few and my students will really love them. The games are used as teaching tools for students. Students get to play and learn at the same time. One of the games teaches you about Japanese culture. You are quizzed on items related to Japanese people. You must point out the mistakes. For example one of the photos had a family eating with silverware instead of chopsticks.
