For my website review I chose the USC Pacific Asia Museum website
http://www.pacificasiamuseum.usc.edu
The museum is located at 45 North Los Robles Avenue Pasadena California 91101 their phone number is (626) 449-2742 The cost to this facility is $ 10.00 general admission, $7.00 for students with a valid ID and seniors (65+). The museum is free for children ages 17 and under, and free to all museum members, USC faculty and staff, and students with a current ID. The museum if FREE for all visitors, (as are many museums, are on Thursdays from 5-8p.m. and on the second Sunday of the Month. The museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesday, and is open on Wednesday to 11-5:00 p.m., Thursday from 11:00 a.m. -8:00 pm, (free from 5-8pm). It is closed on some major holidays, but you can check their website for this information. A good thing about visiting this place is that there is free parking just north of the museum. This museum is also accessible via public transportation, (metro gold line).
Photographs are allowed in some sections of the museum; however there is a no flash policy rule. This place may be rented out for wedding and commercial photography. No food is sold on these premises, but there are several food eateries within walking distance. Also there is no smoking allowed anywhere on the museum premises.
This locations website has a lot of valuable information, such as a calendar. The calendar offers and describes many events and things to do in the community. For instance there is a baby and me hour, where moms can bring their babies, crying is allowed.
The museum also offers free field trips for schools, with a docent led tour of the museum followed by and art and crafts workshop. On their web page it describes its gardens and flowers, as well as the historical background of how this place came into existence. Its good information, however it is too much to write about in this website review. However if one is interested in this information, they can visit the website.
The website also has a collections page where one can browse to see the artifacts on display. This should be interesting for the students. So one can browse to see what interests them and kook up or read up on it or when visiting they can go directly to that certain part of the museum that has the items on display.
PAM also offers classes and workshops, and programs for kids and families, such as storytelling, and library programs. Also for schools and teachers, (free field trip and art lessons). The museum also offer classes and workshops aimed at teaching about Asian art and culture, with topics such as calligraphy, and brush-painting. On their website they also have an exhibition page of the current, past and upcoming events. This was quite interesting. However, again it’s too much information to write about in the exhibition page. This website is easy to use so I believe the students will not have problems, when accessing this website.
So in conclusion I feel that this website is useful for students, the students can access as much or as little information, as they like. It has a lot of educational information as well as interesting background information. Plus it is Social Media friendly, (Face book, Instagram, Twitter).
I really enjoyed my website review tour of this place.
I forgot to mention that this museum is the only university museum in the United States that solely dedicates itself to the arts of the Pacific Islands and Asia
