Chinosity is a website that contains articles written for teens about all kinds of topics related to China, especially current news, pop culture, and learning Chinese. There are articles about new movie releases in China as well as American movies featuring Chinese actors or themes, Chinese musical trends, history, current news, policies explained, food and restaurants, tips and memes about learning Chinese, and even goofy quizzes for things like “Do you know what style of calligraphy you are?” (I am “cursive”, apparently, based on the animal, occupation, ice cream flavor, etc. that I chose).

The articles are listed as large picture icons with catchy headings such as “China’s Offline Version of Tinder?” talking about matchmaking and “Character Amnesia: Technology V Chinese Characters”. There is even a new podcast with hour long episodes talking about Chinese culture from the perspective of the Chinese-American hosts.

The articles are short, engaging, and designed to interest teens. I will be using articles from this website in my Chinese class in the coming year both to bring humor, information, and encouragement to the difficult language learning students will be going through, and to offer a glimpse into what is going on in China, what new films are available, and how students can pursue their interest in Chinese culture with just a few minutes of their own time.
