SpectatorMy name is David Millians. I teach fifth and sixth graders at Paideia School in Atlanta, Georgia, and I am the Asian Resource Administrator for my K-12 school. June 15, 2021 at 12:27 pm #45923Thomas Pineda
SpectatorHi! My name is Thomas Pineda and I am a Math & Science teacher for 6th grade near San Francisco, CA. I've been teaching Math & Science for about 8 years now, and have had experience teaching English abroad in South Korea, which also gave me many opportunities to travel and explore other parts of Asia. Aside from my experience living in Asia, a lot of my interest in learning more about these cultures is because my 6th grade students also learn Ancient history in their grade and I like to tie the concepts together when possible (History & science or math). Looking forward to learning more!
June 15, 2021 at 12:52 pm #45924Miguel Diaz
SpectatorHello. My name is Miguel Diaz. I taught 4th grade at LAUSD this past school year. Next year, I will be teaching a grade 4/5 class. Before returning to southern California in April 2020, I spent over 17 years living and teaching in Asia. I taught mainly in Shanghai, China; however, I also spent about half a year teaching in Osaka, Japan, and one month teaching at a winter camp in Seoul, South Korea.
I would like to continue learning – not only about Japan – but also about all cultures of East Asia so that I can help my students (and my own children) gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the region.
June 15, 2021 at 1:09 pm #45925Lou Kindschi

I developed 2 Global Studies courses for high school and I have traveled with students and fellow teachers to Asia a number of times. I continue to collaborate and consult with educators who look to incorporate global content in their lessons. I am eager to learn more about Japan and I am grateful for this opportunity to learn from all of you as well!
June 15, 2021 at 1:45 pm #45926Deirdre Harris
SpectatorHello - My name is Deirdre Harris. I have been a teacher with LAUSD on and off for 28 years. I have taught a 4th grade gifted class for the past several years at Apperson Elementary School. I recently took the East Asian Studies to 1800 class this Spring with Professor Dube, and learned so much. I am also trying to gather content to enrich my Social Studies content, while also accumulating some salary points too. I look forward to learning from Professor Pilteka, as he was a guest lecturer in the East Asian Studies class and I know we are in for some wonderful content. I am eager to learn more about Japan. Thank you.
June 15, 2021 at 9:15 pm #45928Claudia Ortega
SpectatorHello, my name is Claudia Ortega. I am a 6th grade teacher in Southern California (Imperial Valley), and I am excited to learn about Japanese History. I was born in Mexico, my great-grandfather was Japanese, but never really shared his hisotry, culture, or language with his family. This was probably due to the fact that he was placed in a relocation camp in Mexico during WWII. I teach about ancinet civilizations, but have never convered Japan. One day I wish to visit Japan so I am excited about this corse. It would be wonderful if this culminated in a visit to Japan with our professor as our guide.
