Wow, this course is over, how time flies when you’re having fun. To date this salary point class has been the hardest for me. All the work was intense as were the readings. It seemed as if this course was a regular college course instead if it being a LAUSD salary point class. Among talking to other participants in this seminar almost all of whom I spoke with, agreed that this seminar should be worth more than just 2 salary points at least 3. I say 4!
Of course all the perks were great, the breakfasts, lunches, and snacks. Free parking also as well as the lectures and the guest speakers, yhe movies, which were all excellent and very interesting to talk, listen and watch. The knowledge I gained is of a great expanse. Among talking to other teachers they all mentioned the same thing, that this course was very interesting. Yes there was much to learn and do. I intend to finish all the requirements but I can honestly say many a time I thought it was just too much, too hard, and I was not going to pursue the 2 salary points, I was just going to give up.
However, I am sure glad that I partook in this course/seminar as now I can share the information I gained with not only my students, but with friends, family, colleagues, and maybe even strangers at the bus stop, (although I have been told and brought up with the idea, not to talk to strangers, but now I want to share my knowledge, as I have been doing with some of my family members and neighbors. However, with my students I will surely talk about Asia, and bring Asia into my classroom, as I believe that is what this whole seminar was about, to bring Asia into the classroom. In one of my posts I wrote that I was not a history buff, but now I can honestly say that I now am, and I want to keep learning more. I have learned so much and there is so much more to learn, all the topics covered in this seminar are of great interest. All the knowledge I gained from hearing and listening to the guest speaker’s experiences, lectures, and watching the movies is just not enough for me I want more.
I will certainly make sure that I watch, read and visit all of and places to visit here in Los Angeles, mentioned in this seminar. They are all a wealth of information in order to learn more and incorporate Asia in my teachings to my students and to integrate Asia into the classroom.
Thanks to the USC China Institute and all of its workers, guest speakers, and a special thanks to Mr. Clay Dube and Catherine Gao.
