    If we are to be at the airport 9 and leave at 12:55, may I assume we will eat lunch at the airport? I know we eat dinner when we get to China. Will we be served any meals on the plane, and if so, which ones? Will they be American or Japanese, or a choice?

    Hi Folks,
    This is still in some flux, note the addition of a talk at the Beijing Institute of Education and modifications of the Japan itinerary. Some additional changes in Japan should be expected.

    Darlene asks about ANA's meal plan. I'm confident we'll be fed a couple of times during our long flight to Tokyo. With luck we'll have a choice of meals. I'm hoping for Japanese options. Nari, our travel consultant ranks ANA food above JAL's. Since we'll be at LAX for an eternity, it might be wise to bring or plan to purchase some food. Be sure to drink a lot of water on the plane.

    There is an excelent article on the "Jade Trade" today in the LA Times. They think the trade on the Jade Road might in fact be older then that on the Silk road. Try to read it.

    Dear Friends:
    Most of you know I had shoulder surgery the day after we got back from the trip. All was going well, and I was 1/2 healed, before I had a serious relapse on 8/3o (the pin had torn out of the bone, and my flesh inside was shreded. I underwent emergency surgery on 9/12, and am in bad shape. I am hoping to make our weekend meeting, but truthfully, I do not know if I will be able to. I am in a great deal of pain, and have been in bed since the 12th. Wanted to give you a "heads up". I so do want to see all of you again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    So sorry I could not spend the weekend with you. I have burned through 5 days of sick time, and cannot use more, so I am teaching in the day, going home every day at 2 and going to bed. I am in a tremendeous amount of pain, and am on both Percoset (sp) and Vicaden. What a combination. I have canceled all my night meetings, and of course this weekend.
    Please those of you who are interested in maintaining contact, send me your home address and phone. I miss you guys.
    Hope you all enjoy the CD's Jer made for you. I could not do it, but he came through for me.
    Hope you all had a fun time. I am thinking of you!
