My AP World History students swear by the APOP video lectures! For years, I tried to coax my students into reading their class textbook "Ways of the World" by Robert Strayer, but despite all my best efforts, there were always those students who refused to read for whatever reason, whether it be lack of time, limited comprehension of the college-level text, etc.

For students who dislike reading, APOP has been a godsend! The lectures provide an alternative way for students to familiarize themselves with the content. The creator of APOP is an AP World History teacher, who has developed a lecture for every single chapter of Strayer's "Ways of the World."

These lectures are great for a number of reasons:  First, the lecturer speaks at an acceptable rate- not too fast and not too slow, unlike John Green of Crash Course who speaks at breakneck speed. Second, the lecturer provides an outline summary of the content, which is helpful for 10th graders who are still learning how to take notes. And finally, the content is more focused and relevant to students who are preparing for AP World History. Unlike John Green's videos, the APOP lectures have very little digressions. The straightforward videos are ideal for no-nonsense high schoolers who want to finish their tasks as quickly as possible. I can only think of one drawback to the video lectures and that is, the lack of images. But who could seriously complain when the lectures are free!

These lectures are not only great for students of AP World History but also for anyone interested in gaining a broad understanding of significant events in world history from 10,000 B.C.E. to the present time AND those interested in the broad history of East Asia, especially China. By watching the video lectures, you will learn about all the major governments in China from the Shang Dynasty to the current Communist Party, as well as the major cultural traditions in China like Confucianism, Buddhism, Daoism, and Communism. Enjoy!
