Art of Life in Chinese Central Asia is an excellent website (https://livingotherwise.com/) hosted by Dr. Darren Byler. It include a range of materials focused on the region and its people, particuarly Uyghurs, ranging from poetry and photographs to literature and sports. It also hosts a regular assortment of essays on current events - this section is especially enlightening in light of the atrocities currently transpiring against the Uyghurs.
I have used the website in two ways with students:
1. Enagaging students with art of the Uyghurs. E.g. this article on Uyghur poetry and resistence/resilience during a time of turmoil: https://livingotherwise.com/2019/04/10/night-thick-uyghur-poets-respond-disappearance-relatives/
2. Engaging students with current events related to Uyghurs. E.g. this article on how people are coping with changing rules in light of the reeducation camps and oppression more generally. https://livingotherwise.com/2018/07/31/happiest-muslims-world-coping-happiness/
A lesson plan I created is here: https://speciety.wixsite.com/speciety/post/geography-lesson-plan-minorities-in-china-and-the-plight-of-the-uighurs
