article on asians

Recently, there is one article in the Pasadena Star News on the booming Asian population in my high school. The gist of the article is that the high school's population is over 70% Asian and there is a general decrease in participation in extracurricular activities. My personal opinion is that the article is filled with excessive amount of unimportant and unecessary information and basically just criticizes the Asian population boom in the high school. It seems to be filled with latent racism and I am actually uncomfortable with the article.

This article raised a lot of attention in the city and supposedly the high school actually held a "cultural awareness day." So what do you guys think about this and how is my high school different from yours?

While my high school only had 16.7% Asians, there was a high school about 5 minutes away from me that had about 64% Asians (some of you might have heard of Monta Vista High). Another local high school, Lynbrook High, has about 70% Asians and only 25% White. It's interesting to see how Whites are in the minority. Even UCLA has a high percentage of Asians. This website shows the increasing number of Asians from 1973-2002 and you can see that the percentage of Asians increased gradually to about 35%.

That's sad that they are criticisizing a high Asian population in a school. My school had about 2% Asian with 95% white and 3% other. I don't know why my school was so dominantly white, but the school Rancho Bernardo about 10 minutes away was 28% white, and the other one Mount Carmel was 40%. Poway High (my school) was in a little white suburban town...so I guess that would be why, but RB was only 10 minutes away! I don't know how that works. But apparently RB had higher academic ratings, and Poway had higher sports ratings. Interesting how that works out...
