The website I want to share is Asia Society. http://asiasociety.org/
The site has resources about the current affairs and events of the more than 50 Asian countries and regions. What is more impressive is it has a page of Education which include sub pages for educators, parents, administrators. Here I want to recommend the educator page where you can find information about professional developments, professional consulting services, some lesson plans, curriculum as well.
This is a great site that for many Asian countries at one stop.

This is a great website to begin research in, it has a great amount of information on different topics. This site would seem to be more upper grades where they are able to navigate the site on their own and look for particular information. I was drawn to the mother-in-law section that explains the role that they have and are entitled to in a marriage. I used it in class with a school project we were asked to do, I made sure I was navigating through the site. I strongly believe this is a website to use in incorporating asian history in my lesson plans.

Another great website for 5th and 6 grade students to use as a resource for research. I found it quite interesting reading about Pokémon. I actually did not know that the players had to be able to read the Japanese characters in order to play the game. Great way to engage American children in other cultures.

A great website to use for teaching about contemporary Japanese society & culture is: http://afe.easia.columbia.edu/at_japan_soc/

The site has resources about east Asia but I will focus on Japan. The Japan section is divided into: Life, Family, Work & Education, Society, Religion, and Pop Culture and is extremely easy to use! However, FYI the video links didn't work for me but the transcripts were more than enough information.

For educators who don't have too much experience with Japan's culture, but need to teach students, this is a great resource as it goes into great detail about each of the sections. Of course you are able to pick and choose what information you will teach students but I believe that when teaching about a country it is important to not only teach about its history, but also the make up of the society. What I really like about this resource is how it even discusses the role of in member of a family and how these roles create a strong family unit.

For students, this website can be used as a research tool for a project or any other assignment which requires accurate information about the country. Although written by Harvard professors/researchers, it is still student-friendly and can provide a great starting point for any lesson!

[I edited this to change the subject line from "web resource" to "afe" - asia for educators. It's always a good idea to title posts with the name of the site or its strength. Everything in the web resources thread is a web resource. -CD]
