Check out the website called Asia Observer at http://www.asiaobserver.com! You have to login to get complete access to this interesting website chock full of news and current events throughout Asia. However, even without joining or logging in, the home page has a "worth reading" list of Asia-related news and articles. The list includes a synopsis of each article plus a link to the article. The articles on the first page are all extremely current. I checked the website on Saturday the 28th and there were already articles posted for the 29th from Asia. It is a little eerie being able to read about something that happened on the other side of the world past the international dateline on the day before the date it happened. I especially liked the mix of hard news and human interest stories. This website could be used to generate student interest and increase awareness about Asia. Students would really enjoy some of the human interest stories. When I checked the website, there was a very interesting story about a very controversial t-shirt that caused a big stir. The t-shirt involved a Chinese student using profanity. Somehow, I can imagine a an American student being able to relate.
