Let's use this corner of the forum to discuss archaeological puzzles and resources of interest to our students.

The History Channel series History's Mysteries recently broadcast a program on "Japan's Mysterious Pyramids." The remarkable stone structures referred to are near Yonaguni in Okinawa. Wonder Okinawa offers a site with quite a few images and details about these structures.

The structure was discovered by a diver in 1985. It is about 100 m long, 30 m wide, and at its highest point is about 23 m tall. Some argue that the structure was erected during the last ice age, or perhaps 12,000 years ago.

Not everyone, however, is convinced that the structure is man-made, despite the many square edges that are evident. In 1998, Boston University geologist Robert Schoch told the Australian paper the Sunday Mail "I think the evidence is tantalising but not conclusive or definitive."

Tonite (1.29.06) on the Discovery Channel, they are doing a program on Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi, the Man Who Made China.
I have always enjoyed the Disc. Channel, so I"m hoping it is up there in quality as previous shows have been.

Arthur, Did you get a chance to watch the program. I am interested in hearing your review about its content. Would it be appropriate for 6th grade students, let alone would it be worthwhile to watch?

I usually like the Discovery Channel docs and can use them, in snippets, for the class to view.

I'm trying to collect a few things for my unit on Ancient China which I begin in March.

    Thanks,

    jem

Both the Discovery Channel and the Travel channel have good coverage of Asia. I don't think there is much on the travel channel this week for asia, but last week they showed the food processing of Japan. They started in the sea from the fisherman to the buyers to the restaurant to the customer. If fact, they say that the Japanese eat 7x more fish than we do in the US. However, the cost of fish is often a lot higher than chicken or beef products.
