https://asianart.org/ is the website for the Asian Art Museum located in San Francisco. Their extensive collection is divided into: South Asia, the Persian World and West Asia, Southeas Asia, the Himalayas and the Tibetan Buddhist World, China through 960 CE, China 960 CE to present, Korea, Japan and Contemporary Art. Searching the collection is very user friendly, and results show artworks, as well as resources related to your search. The museum shows objects from multiple views and offers background information about the objects. There are videos that accompany information for current exhibitions. They offer a lot in the way of digital resources such as podcasts and videos about different topics, such as food, religion, and fashion, that connect to the museum’s collection. The site does a good job of showing cultural and historical connections to art objects that could be easily used in other classes, such as History and Literature. They also exhibit art from Asian-American and Pacific Islander artists in their contemporary collection and look at the Asian diaspora. In my Visual Arts classes, I could have students do independent research about specific Art/Culture topics; I could supplement lessons with museum materials or object based learning strategies.
