The Atlantic: Remembering the Korean War Photo Essay July 27, 2016

    Website: https://www.theatlantic.com/photo/2016/07/remembering-the-korean-war/493235/

This website provides 41 images of the Korean War that really highlight the devastation and atrocities of this conflict.  The images are large and well captioned.  They would provide an excellent way for students to examine the Korean War and the legacy of the Korean War.

In class, I would use this resource in the following way:

    1) I would initially ask students what they know about the Korean War.  Why did we get involved?  What was the outcome?  Etc.  Then I would have students examine the photos recording observations from the images.  After examining the images, I would ask students to write 5 questions they have about the conflict that they would like to discuss.

    2)  The following day, I would have a class discussion on the images, the North Korean war, atrocities of the war, and the legacy of the war.  Ideally, I would also include a few primary source pieces to use inconjuction with the images.

For Homework: I would have students listen to the podcast from NPR's Throughline (February 21, 2019):https://www.npr.org/2019/02/12/694152504/the-forgotten-war
