    Use of the website:

    What I have done before:

The website includes introduction of popular Chinese festivals. I used to have Mandarin students conduct research on certain festivals. This website was one of the resources. Students worked in groups and each was charge of one aspect of the festival. This website not only covers festival customs but also traditional food. Each group then presented their aspects of the festival in front of the class. The presentation involved live acting of culture practices and games about food and other culture aspects.

What I will do in the future:

Mandarin 3 students will have a unit where they will get to design their graduation trip. Students can totally utilize this website to learn about the process of planning a trip, the cities and attractions where they can visit in China, and the expense they are expecting. Students can also work in groups as “travel agencies” to thoroughly learn one or two cities so that they can present and promote the cities to the rest of the class. I will definitely look for other resources for students to build a more valid and comprehensive knowledge of traveling to China.

What a great idea to design a graduation trip.  I could use something like this as a cross-curriculur assignment.  They can plan the trip with a particular budget but I could have them look at the cost for a particular time period (Math).  They could write letters for their visas (ELA).  They could also list people and places they would like to see based on our time period in history (HSS).  I just need to figure out how to add a science element.  I love this idea, thanks.
