I'm a huge fan of Chinese films - and I thought a fun activity to do would be watch various Chinese films (I'm going to try for 1-2 per week) until we head out to China. So excited - anyway, I have a ton of them but for those of you that watch Chinese films what are some of your favorites? Tonight or tomorrow I will be watching Hero by Jet Li. (Qin dynasty period piece)
My general education freshmen just finished watching it. It creates plenty of super discussion when paired with Da Chen's memoir China's Son and also promotes a rare appreciation for the education my students have so freely available to them.
I love Yimou - brilliant work. I heard about To Live in a Facebook group on Asia that I'm in. I haven't seen the Going to School or China's Son films as of yet.
I really enjoyed Infernal Affairs (2002) based in Hong Kong, it is the film from which Scorcese based ‘The Departed’ which was not half as good, ‘Infernal Affairs’ stands out on its own right as one of the finest crime thrillers of the 2000s. Following the paths of an undercover cop and a triad member who infiltrates the police force its a fantastic movie.
