I understand that this forum is for museums, but, during my East Asian learning experience, I had the opportunity to visit the Chuan Thien Hau Temple, located in Chinatown, near Downtown LA. This picture was taken on the night of the Lunar New Year; the Year of the Snake. I had the opportunity to see how the temple is arranged in terms of welcoming the new year. I noticed that there were lots of fruits, oranges aplenty in display. I also noticed a group of ladies near the kitchen, cutting fruit to be served later on during the night for the attendees. There were plenty of statues and incense sticks burning along with the spiritual rituals. I thought this was very interesting and a form of ritual purification. Later that night, there was a festivity outside the temple with many dragons and dancers. It was a great experience and something that I hope to continue doing each year.
