Hey, Are there laundry facilities avaiable to us on the trip? Are there weight restrictions for our bags? I was thinking the weather was going to be hot. Are we allowed to wear shorts? Do capis count as shorts or pants? I am not a fashion princess, but I want to dress in an appropriate way. Susan
Let;s try this again, So I am interested in whether or not women wear shorts in China? I understand it will be around 90 degrees at times and it is either shorts or dresses in that case. Also never having packed for a month, how much do we bring? I am sure we don't want to carry tons. But then again are we needing particular clothes for functions? Susan
Important question regarding toilets. Will we be encountering on-the-floor/squat-down toilets? Should we start doing deep knee bends? I've used them on moving trains before--quite the experience!!
The university guesthouse and our hotels will have US-style toilets. During the day, however, you should expect squat style facilities at parks, schools, and the like. Strengthen those leg muscles and work on the stretching.
Chinese women do wear shorts while at home and at leisure, but skirts and dresses are the norm at work and are also common at home, while shopping, and sightseeing.
It will be hot and in several places it will also be humid.
There are two chief restrictions luggage-wise. The first is that you'll need to lug your stuff around and will appreciate not having brought things you won't use (and use a lot!). Get some sort of rolling bag. The second is that domestic checked luggage restrictions are tighter and firmer than international ones. At the orientation we were told we'd be limited to under 20 kg (44 pounds).
Okay, maybe this is inappropriate, but the question of underwear arose at our orientation and I saw an advertisement in the Times that might interest the participants...check out this website:
