In addition, to introducing my students to China, by discussing the Chinese soldiers who fought in the Civil War, I can also introduce Japan. I want my students to be aware that East Asia and the United States had commercial and political relation early on, is not a modern occurrence. Norimasa, mentions that the U.S is pen of the greatest country in the world, the highest post is held by the president, but he doesn't think that the American government system would last another for many more year, but he doesn't explain why. I was intrigued by this, and I will like to find out more about it.

I enjoyed reading this article by Muragaki Norisima, back in September. I will like to use it with my students when we get top the unit in the Civil War. He talks about the lack of protocol when meeting the U.S. president, whereas in China is totally different.

The article by Muragaki Norimasa, From Kokai nikki (Diary of a Voyage Abroad), was fascinating. Norimasa, describes the high honor of being selected to represent Japan as an ambassador to the United States in 1854 to ratify the Harris Treaty. I founded interesting that one of the first things he makes note of if people taking their hats off in homage to George Washington as they pass his house. Another, thing he makes a note of, women been present in the government office, something that in Japan is not practiced. Norimasa, and the rest of the Japanese officials are extremely concerned, with following the proper etiquette when meeting President Buchanan, but are surprised that there is none. This I think, will be surprised as well for my students.
