http://www.dienbienphu.org/ claims to be "The official and history site of the battle." For those of you who do not know, the Battle of Dien Bien Phu was the deciding battle of the French Indochina War where the French military was defeated by the Viet Minh led by Ho Chi Minh. The Viet Minh & Ho Chi Minh had fought for an independent Vietnamese nation against their French Colonialists. http://www.dienbienphu.org allows the user to see actual photos (many in color) of the build up, battle, and aftermath of that culminating battle in 1954. The site gives detailed narration from those who had fought the battle, and a history of the build up, battle, and aftermath is also described in detail. I wrote earlier that the side "claims" to be the official history of the battle because the people who created the website were French, and the historical narration provided in the site are French. Thus, a French bias might be observed from the site, yet the French viewpoint does acknowledge their defeat...amidst the tribute it pays to those who fought and died for the French cause. High School students studying the American involvement in the Vietnam War would benefit from this website because the origins of the America's involvement in the Vietnam War no doubt go back to the French Occupation and Dien Bien Phu. http://www.dienbienphu.org/ has many photos for the high school student to easily utilize in studying the history of the French Indochina War, especially the photos and descriptions of the female French nurses who were vital to the French war effort against the Viet Minh. A French/European perspective is given for to someone studying the history of war in that region of the world.
