Thanks for that tip!
Prof. Dube also gave me 2 references to interview for my paper. I highly recommend emailing 2-3 faculty/professors to interview for about half an hour to discuss your research topic. This way, you are able to condense the time/effort considerably because the information will be given as soon as you ask......... rather than spending hours at the library looking books up, sifting through aisles of books, and lugging them back to your dorm.
For me, I talked to the Director of Clinical Research Unit about the socio-economic circumstances that encourage obesity in China. She was very helpful, informative, and passionate about the topic.
However, I suggest you do the following before interviewing faculty/professors:
1) Email them to set up a time slot. Unfortunately, I had to wait 2 weeks before I was able to talk to her. 1 week for the person to respond, 1 week to wait for the time slot.
2) Bring Pen/Paper and a tape recorder. The interview is like a conversation & it's easier to record the conversation and focus on the interview.
3) Ask for a business card. My reference gave me hers before I even sat down, but it helps to keep in touch in case you have a question or two in the future.
4) Ask for other references (e.g. other faculty/professors, print materials, and relevant sources). Again, this helps saves time & effort!
Hopefully we can all post our *helpful tips* in this thread. Good luck!
