Film: A Better Tomorrow II, written and directed by John Woo, starring Chow Yun Fat
This film has all the stereotypes of the Chinese organized crime syndicate, but at the same time it shows the great emphasis the Chinese put on family. This film also has sub-titles, but the selections at the beginning of the film are interesting. It was made for a Chinese audience. So the first choice you have is whether you want to hear it in Cantonese or Mandarin. Then you have choices for subtitles that include more than half a dozen different languages. It has the old fashioned Hollywood ending, where everyone pays for their deeds, but that is also a concept embedded in much of Chinese philosophy. The film is not rated according to its box. This makes three films that I have seen. Unfortunately all of them were rated or not rated, so an to be inappropriate for middle school children. Does anyone know of some entertaining movies, that reflect the culture and/or history that have a G or PG rating?
