While not strictly about a particular east Asian culture, Between the Folds is a documentary about Origami; it's origins, meaning, and how it's grown and how it's used today. Its a great exploration of the different ways people approach the subject, and how one things can be taken in so many different directions. There are segments in the film that portray origami being used as an artistic endeavor, how it can be used in mathematics and engineering, to do research about biology, as an exploration into patience and zen, and all sorts of other ways.

I used this film in my class to give students the message that even though you may think of something as having a particular meaning, there can be lots of different meanings found in one topic, and each of them can be valid in their own way.
