This is a great thing to bring up in classroom under the discussion of identity and the presence of media in the molding of people's acceptance of their identity.

There are a variety of techniques used around the world that highlight certain features of the body and destroy other parts. It often has to do with people's sense of beauty based on what people have been taught is beautiful and what they see on TV, etc.

Likewise, many have criticized Hollywood for portraying East Asians negatively in movies. The men are often shown as non masculine, sneaky, and not so clever (or too smart). Women are portrayed as sex symbols. Their accent is used in a negative stereotype and now days actors who do hit the mainstream use American accents when portraying good characters.

This can not be helping the self esteem of East Asians in the West possibly contributing to these surgeries.

Wow, I am fascinated by the marriage broker situation in Vietnam and how Korean men are marrying Vietnamese women due to a men not being able to find a marriageable partner in Korea. This gender role thing is so confusing I am beginning to think I should send a marriage broker to Korea to find me a Korean man to marry, I'll take care of the finances if he'll stay home and take care of the house, my mother, the dogs and cats, all domestic duties and of course marrital dutie and and promise to love me and take care of me for the rest of my life and of course be my beneficiary on my life insurance.

I've got a better idea, I'll go to Korea so I can look over the eligable men.[Edit by="lgates on Sep 24, 11:34:18 PM"][/Edit]
