National Geographic's Inside North Korea is a great documentary. I have shown it a few times in my class. It is a great entry point into the Korean War. Some might ask how can a movie about the effects of the Korean war be an entry point to the Korean war, but it works. Students seem to have a fascination with dictators. Although many of my students do not know the name Kim Jong-un, they know that there is a dictator in North Korea and they know that the dictator has a lot of power. The movie highlights the power that the government has over the people of North Korea. The students are often amazed that the people revere historical figures the way very religious people revere gods in our society.

This is a really good documentary that I show my students when I teach about the Korean War and the lasting effects of the Korean war and post-Cold War conflicts. Just curious, what do you have your students do with the film?
