My name is Hung. I am an educator for the Alhambra Unified School District. I also hold a M.A. in Education and Psychology (with an emphasis in Buddhist Psychology.) Asia has such a long and rich cultural history that few in the West know about, so I am very excited about the line-up of speakers and topics for next week. I hope it can be a springboard from which to expand my knowledge of the East.
My name is Al and I am a 10th grade English teacher at L.A. Leadership Academy in the Lincoln Heights area. I participated in the seminars Origins to 1800 last semester, and I found the seminars to be excellent discourse on East Asia. I plan to offer more East Asian literature and I am looking forward to the upcoming seminars. I further think that collaborating with the social science teachers at my school will benefit the lesson plans that I develop through the summer program.
Hi Everyone - I'm Clayton Dube and I'm looking forward to getting to know each of you a bit over the course of our week together. I work with Catherine at the USC US-China Institute. I lived in China for a couple of stretches totaling five years. In between I taught in San Diego secondary schools. Afterwards, I taught at Berea College in Kentucky before coming back to California. I worked at UCLA for nine years and just got a letter from the USC president saying "thanks for your ten years here." Hopefully that doesn't mean I'm being dismissed. I love travel, photography, and reading.
Hello all. My name is Mike and I am a Social Studies/Electives teacher at Bethune Middle School in South Los Angeles. I have always had a great interest in Asian studies and Asian history and I look forward to another opportunity working with the USC US-China Institute.
Hello fellow educators,
My name is Rick Brady and I will be teaching a 4-5 combo class this Fall semester in the Menifee Union School District where I have worked for the past 12 years while living in Temecula. My teaching career began in the LAUSD where I taught for the first ten years of my career. Before starting my teaching career I had the pleasure to spend some time in Asia marketing Japanese made broadcast quality satellite communications equipment and was able to spend some time in Hong Kong and attended China's first satellite communications trade show in Beijing. Looking forward to learning and collaborating with colleagues this upcoming week as we develop useful curriculum that will bring some familiarity of Asia to our students through engaging classroom lessons.

Hello. My name is Victoria Chan, but you all can call me Vicky. I am a chemistry teacher at Santee Education Complex, which isn't too far from USC, and it is in the LAUSD network. I look forward to learning more about Chinese history since I am Chinese, and my parents weren't particularly great at explaining things to me without bias. I also look forward to potentially incorporating what I learn into my classroom.

Hello,
My name is Garret Tyau and I'll be teaching a high school history course this fall called World Cultures: Pacific Rim. I'm really excited and somewhat nervous because, despite being a teacher/administrator for over a decade, I've never taught high school history! I've grown fascinated by the subject and region (Pacific region in general) since I started prepping for the course; there's so much I didn't know despite being both from Hawaii and of Asian descent. Looking forward to the week and working with all of you!
