Hi Folks,
I hope everyone will try to post a short intro before Monday evening's class. I'm Clay Dube and I work with Catherine at the USC US-China Institute. I previously worked at UCLA and Berea College (Kentucky). Prior to that I taught and carried out research in China and taught secondary school for a couple of years in San Diego. I'm a historian by training, but spend a lot of time looking at international relations and political science. I love history, teaching, and travel. Working with teachers is one of the best things about my job. I've been to China and Taiwan many times and have also traveled in South Korea, Japan, and Vietnam, other places that fit into the East Asian cultural sphere. I look forward to spending time with you this fall and hope you'll seize this opportunity to explore the many available resources on East Asia and opportunities for educators to go to East Asia (e.g., with one of our National Consortium for Teaching about Asia partners, with the Japan Society, with the Korea Society, or with Fulbright groups). Many of these resources and opportunities can be found in this forum. Please take a look.

Hi everyone!
My name is Natalí and I am a social science teacher with YouthBuild Charter School. I work at the Norwalk site, and I teach 10th grade world history, 11th grade US history, and an art elective. I have a love for empowering young people, social justice, learning, and traveling which makes teaching enjoyable and fulfilling, albeit the demands of the job. What brings me to this seminar is my interest in helping to transform my students into socially conscious global citizens. I have been lucky enough to do some traveling, some of which has taken place in Asia (China and India). I am excited to learn more about the region, and to connect with all of you.
Cheers!
-Natalí Ramón
Hello everyone!
My name is Ericka and I am a Spanish teacher at Curtiss Middle school in Carson, California. I teach Spanish to eighth graders. I have been a teacher for 17 years and 12 years at my current school. I am very excited to participate in this seminar because I participated in the spring one and it was fantastic. I learned so much about East Asia and want to continue to learn more. It is interesting to connect Asia to my subject matter. It has more to do with business and economics, which has become and important part for Latin America's development and progress.
Professor Dube and Catherine are awesome people. They were wonderful to us. They are very attentive to our needs. It was just a great pleasure to have met both of you. Thank you.
I have not been that fortunate to have travel to Asia, but it is in my plans to do so. Visiting Japan, has been my dream, but after spring seminar, my dream has expanded to China and Korea. I know that I will accomplish my travel dreams soon.
I can't wait to meet and connect to my new classmates.
See you all on Monday.
Ericka

Hello,
My name is Cesar and I'm a high school math teacher at Diego Rivera Learning Complex in Los Angeles. I currently teach AP Calculus and Algebra 2. I've always been interested in in Asia, their culture and history really captivates my mind. I'm really interested in creating a lesson plan in my math class that incorporates Asia in some way. I think that will be fun for me and my students. I'm planning on traveling to that side of the world this coming summer so I'm also looking to learn about their culture.
Hi everyone, my name is Juana Evink. This is my 3rd seminar with USC US-China Institute. If anyone is interested in Korea, I have multiple resources like a Common Core align lesson plans book, a Cd with over 30 PowerPoints, and more. Hi Everyone, it was great getting to meet some of you on Monday.

Every academic year that starts it's exciting because it brings new learning experiences and success stories. I hope to learn from you all and I wish to also contribute in any way I can.
