In trying to finish up my reading for class tomorrow, I found the Article on "The Horrors of War" to be quite interesting. My Web lesson is on Atrocities of WW11, so the major events, The Rape of Nanking, Unit 731, etc..., I had read a lot of information on. I've actually had a hard time getting information on some of these events that would be considered "appropriate" for the classroom. On the one hand we want students to understand how horrible some of these "war crimes" were, however some of the descriptions are so graphic, I think we would be in "hot water" if we didn't censor some of the info.
What I found that was new information in the article, were the descripions of the brutal treatment by the Japanese military of their OWN people.

My step-son is in the Marines and he was part of that training. He is very impressed at the Japanese and their dedication and he said he got many invitiations from them to visit. He wants to go back (he was there on leave once) and he is now excited to go and see Japan from an "insider's view."

I think you history teachers will bear me out when I say that I think I remember that there is always a faction in war of atrocities done by the participants by their own people! Human nature being the flawed thing that it is!
