This is AWESOME!!! I've already begun the application process for a trip! I especially liked the "hands on" tours/workshops. This will be a great experience for my students. Thank you!!!

The website for the Japanese American National Museum is an excellent resource for students and teachers. Their website address is http://www.janm.org this site is also user friendly and easy to navigate. You can view part of the permeant collection and the traveling exhibits as well. One of the most interesting exhibits I found at this site was, "Miss Clara Breed Correspondence". Miss Breed was a librarian who corresponded with her young patrons that where interned in the camps during WWII. She not only sent them letters but books, school supplies and materials as well. These primary source documents are posted at the website and can be reviewed or downloaded. This is a great resource for our students, there are about 300 cards and letters give a personal voice to part of our national history.

I would recommend going to the museum in person, they do accommodate groups as large as 60 and school groups are welcomed. The website will give you instructions on how to plan your field trip. The tours are given by volunteer docents who share their personal experiences during the WWII incarceration.

You are very welcomed. I hope that you and your students enjoy the exhibits and the hands on tours. One thing that I forgot to mention and I am sure you saw it in the application. Is that last year one of our Social Studies Teachers asked for, and received free transportation for his field trip to the museum. The museum payed about $700 for two bus loads of students to experience their tours and workshops. With the school budgets the way they are now, anything we can get for free for our students is a blessing.
