The King and I is a musical play based on the novel Anna and the King of Siam by Margaret Landon. Set in the 1860’s the play narrates the story of Anna, a British School Teacher and the King of Siam, who driven by his desire to modernize his kingdom brings Anna to his palace to teach his children and all his concubines. It is a very interesting musical that presents the history of some cultural practices such as having many concubines living at the royal palace as well as finding death as the last resource to be together with their love one. It is a great play, I found interesting to see how the two opposite ideologies (wet/east) were fantastically intertwined for the sake of entertainment. It is being presented at the Pantages Theater until January 21, 2017
