The Last Emperor (1987) is a very long film and perhaps too long to show completely in class however it is a great film that could be shown in segments and later the students could finish the film on their own time.  The opening scene of the film would be a great piece to show because it shows the eunuchs and the empress. This would be a great time to discuss culture and tradition and it could be supported with this segment. Another piece of the film that would be worth showing would be when the emperor goes to Manchuria and finds that most official under the influence of opium. This segment would allow students the opportunity to discuss the corruption that occurred in the government because of the introduction of opium and perhaps the significance of a puppet government especially during the age of imperialism.
