    In Mandarin with English subtitles
Director: Xiaogang Feng, released in 2006, original title: Ye Yan
Leading actors: Ziyi Zhang, Daniel Wu
    Set during China's Tang Dynasty.
This film was "inspired by Shakespeare's Hamlet" and deals - among other issues - with the return of an exiled prince.
I think the cinematography is very inspiring (even though some professional film critics disagree) with amazing colors, costumes, interactions between characters, etc.
However, there are too many brutal fighting scenes with too much "blood" and violence and also some sensual moments to make this an appropriate movie to show to students.
I decided to show a few carefully selected scenes to my senior English class when teaching Hamlet to expose them to different adaptations of Hamlet. Their feedback was positive, and the English subtitles were adequate. (Of course, they wanted to watch all of it!)
