    Movie review
    The Brotherhood of War (Korean movie), PG rated

    This movie is a good example of an older brother's sacrifice for his younger brother. Two brothers, Jin tae and his younger brother, Jin seok are living with the mother. Since their father passed away, the family faces hardship. The mother runs a small noodle shop to make their ends meet. The income is not enough to send two kids to a high school. The older brother drops out of school and works as a shoe-shine boy. Though the family does not have much to cheer on, there is a silver lining which is to send the younger brother, Jin seok to a university. The older brother often says to his younger brother;
    ?Whenever I can picture you a college boy, I am not tired to work. You are our family?s hope.?

    The Korean War shatters this family?s plan into pieces. When Jin Seok was forcibly drafted in to a South Korean Army, Jin Tae volunteered to join the Army to be next to his brother. Jin Tae was told if he earns a medal of honor, Jin Seok would be discharged. Jin Tae decides to earn the medal even if he dies so that his bother can go home and finish his education. Does Jin Seok know his older brother?s intention? Or does Jin-Seok see his older brother acts as heroism?

    The acting of all the cast is accomplished. However, the constant battle scenes and some plot developments are unrealistic.

    The movie is very entertaining. It shows the Korean culture under the Confucianism, and citizen's reactions toward the war. This movie is being played at selected theaters in Los Angeles area starting September 3. 2004 with English subtitles.
