http://www.nationsonline.org is a portal of gateways to almost all the countries and areas in the world. Here you will find country profiles with information on various topics. For example, the China web page (http://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/china.htm) includes its border countries, official web sites of China, maps, population, language, major cities, ethnic groups, history and a lot of other useful links. What caught my attention is a link to Falun Gong, a meditation group which the Chinese government declared an “illegal organization.”
On the bottom of the China web page, there are links to other countries in Eastern Asia, such as Japan, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea, and Taiwan (ROC). Although this site looks pretty plain as it’s just text and links, it does contain a lot of useful information. It would be a good site if you are looking for some quick information about a country. When I assign projects related to China, Taiwan or Hong Kong, I will definitely encourage students to check out this website.
