I found this article on the Japan Zone website on Origami and its history. The article begins by acknowledging that most Western students have experience with origami but then dives into the history. I think that this would be a great introduction for students to read at the beginning of a lesson on Origami. We could follow up with a discussion about why and when origami was created and come up with connections in their own lives. They could then create more meaningful origami themselves.
