I use websites such as Khan Academy, Quizlet, Kahoot! to incorporate methods of introduction and/or review. Prior to introducing a unit, I will reference such websites to help students transition from one civilization to another. Since my focus as a 7th grade history teacher examines the Middle Ages, learning the concept of cultural diffusion and how civilizations, both past and present, influence one another is part of the curricula. Examining the influence cultural diffusion has on the various civilizations studied is one of the California standards of history.
Prezi is a site I was not familiar with. I specifically like how it breaks the content in a note-taking/outline quasi-format. The video graphic organizers offer students a more interactive experience when navigating from one topic to another. Students are tasked with exploring China, Japan and South Korea's geographical, religious, political, and socioeconomic attributes as well as the achievements of the East Asian cultures they study. The website I discovered is a fantastic resource for achieving this and one I plan to use as part of my 3-part lesson plan on cultural diffusion in East Asia.
Students can use the website as a secondary source for completing their graphic organizers by extracting relative materials as they pertain to the G.R.A.P.E.S. acronym they will be working with as it specifically relates to cultural diffusion's influence on geography, religion, achievements, politics, economy and society in medieval China, South Korea and Japan.
