Quitting

During the Orientation Weekend, Robin will introduce the fascinating 2001 film Quitting (Zuotian). Zhang Yang directed the film. Many of you know his earlier film "Shower" about a family which runs a failing bathhouse in contemporary China. Quitting tells the story of Jia Hongsheng, an actor who became well-known in 1980s China. The film explores his brush with fame, his drug use, and his addiction to a select number of songs. Nearly all of the supporting roles feature people who really were in Jia's life.

Let's use this area of the forum to extend our discussion of the film.

Within the thread for each group -- it is probably a good idea to have a section devoted to features and documentaries related to the subject. Let's put titles and capsule descriptions there, but save fuller reviews and discussions of films for the film festival section of the Asia in My Classroom forum.
